Help and how-to

Quick answers to how SocratesIQ works. Can't find it? Email support@socratesiq.com.

Getting started: what SocratesIQ does

SocratesIQ analyzes your assignments for how easily a student could complete them with AI, then helps you redesign them. The basic flow: paste or upload an assignment → pick your AI strategy → click Analyze. You get a resilience score (0–100), a breakdown of exactly how AI could shortcut the assignment, and three ready-to-use redesigns (Quick Fix, Rebuild, Reinvent). Set up your teaching profile when you first sign in (subjects and grade levels), and every analysis is tailored to what you teach.

Adding an assignment (paste, upload, Google Drive, or template)

Four ways to get an assignment in: 1. PASTE: copy your assignment text into the "Paste Text" box. 2. UPLOAD: drop a PDF, Word (.docx), or plain-text file into the "Upload Document" card. The text is extracted automatically. 3. GOOGLE DRIVE: click "Select from Google Drive," sign in to Google if asked, and pick a Google Doc (or a PDF/Word file stored in Drive). SocratesIQ can only read the specific files you pick, never the rest of your Drive. 4. TEMPLATE: click "Start from a template" to begin from a sample assignment for your subject. If a PDF won't read (some scanned PDFs are images, not text), try the Word version, or copy-paste the text instead.

The three AI strategies (AI-Free, AI-Assisted, AI-Integrated)

Before analyzing, choose the role AI should play in this assignment. You decide. Your choice changes the redesigns you get: AI-FREE LEARNING: design for human-only creation, reasoning, and demonstration of learning. Redesigns make the assignment AI-resilient (personal evidence, in-class steps, process artifacts). AI-ASSISTED LEARNING: students use AI for brainstorming, feedback, and research while maintaining ownership. Redesigns build AI in as a helper and grade the student's own synthesis and reflection. AI-INTEGRATED LEARNING: students use AI as a tool they analyze, critique, and improve. Redesigns have students fact-check and strengthen AI's work, and document the collaboration. There is no wrong choice. Pick per assignment. You can set your usual default in Settings.

Understanding your results

RESILIENCE SCORE (0–100): how hard it is for a student to complete your ORIGINAL assignment using AI. Higher = harder to shortcut. The score always measures AI-resistance, whatever strategy you chose. AI FAILURE BREAKDOWN: three specific ways a student could use AI to shortcut the assignment, each with a severity and a fix. QUICK FIX / REBUILD / REINVENT REDESIGNS: three rewritten versions of your assignment, from a light tweak (Quick Fix) to a substantial restructure (Rebuild) to a transformational redesign (Reinvent), all following your chosen AI strategy. Each states about how long it takes a student, right in the assignment. Use "Compare levels" to see them side by side. Each is written to be handed out as-is, but always apply your own professional judgment. WANT CHANGES? Under each redesign there's a box: "Anything you'd like to change before the lesson plan?" Type a request, like "make it a group project" or "fit it into one class period" and click Revise. You can also click "Edit inline" to change the text yourself. Your revised version is what gets downloaded and built into the lesson plan.

Standards alignment and lesson plans

You can align results to your state standards and generate a full lesson plan: 1. UPLOAD YOUR STANDARDS once, during onboarding, or anytime in Settings. PDF, Word, or text. 2. After an analysis, choose a redesign level, select your standards document on the results screen, and run alignment. You'll see which standards the assignment addresses, any gaps, and near-misses. 3. Generate the LESSON PLAN, built on the CCSS-aligned template: learning standards, learning targets, relevance, assessment criteria, activities/tasks with your AI rules built in, resources, access for all, and modifications/accommodations. The Word download matches the official template layout exactly, with a Notes column left blank for you. 4. Generate STUDENT DIRECTIONS, a student-facing handout with steps, AI rules, and grading expectations. Standards upload requires being signed in.

Saving, the Library, and syncing

Click Save on any analysis to keep it. Your saved assignments live in the Library (top navigation). As you work, SocratesIQ also autosaves your current draft to this browser, so you can pick up where you left off if you navigate away. When you're signed in, saved assignments sync to your account, so you can reach them from any device. You can reopen, review, or delete saved assignments from the Library at any time.

Downloading and sharing results

THE FULL ANALYSIS REPORT (top of the results screen): download as PDF or Word (DOCX), save straight to your Google Drive as a Google Doc, or click SHARE to copy a summary link for a colleague. The report includes your score, the failure breakdown, and all three redesigns. ONE REDESIGNED ASSIGNMENT: under each Quick Fix / Rebuild / Reinvent version, use the "Download this version" row to get just that assignment as a PDF, Word document, or Google Doc, ready to hand out. If you used "Edit inline," your edits are included. LESSON PLAN & STUDENT DIRECTIONS: once generated, each has its own PDF / Word / Google Doc buttons next to "Copy all." Google Doc saves open in a new tab and land in your Drive automatically. The first time, Google will ask you to sign in and approve. Allow popups for this site.

Signing in: email and Google

Two ways to sign in today: EMAIL + PASSWORD: create an account with any email address. GOOGLE: click "Continue with Google" and use your Google account. No separate password needed. If you signed up with Google, always use the Google button. Your account has no password.

Forgot your password?

On the sign-in screen, click "Forgot password?" (under the password box), enter your email, and click Send Reset Link. Check your inbox for the reset email and click the link. It brings you back to SocratesIQ to choose a new password. You'll be signed in immediately after saving it. Tips: • The link expires after about an hour. Request a fresh one if needed. • No email? Check your spam folder, and wait a minute or two. • Signed up with Google? There's no password to reset. Use "Continue with Google" instead.

Settings and your teaching profile

Open Settings (gear icon) to change: • Your subjects and grade levels (multi-select; analyses are tailored to these) • Your standards documents • Your Bloom's target for redesigns (Auto keeps your assignment's own level; you can also set it on the main screen) • Your default AI strategy (Avoid / Augment / Embrace) Changes apply to your next analysis.

Troubleshooting common errors

"This step took too long and timed out": the AI hit a time limit. Just try again; if it keeps happening on one assignment, try slightly shorter text. "The result came back in an unexpected format": a rare formatting hiccup in the AI's response. Click the same button again; it almost always succeeds on retry. A PDF uploads but no text appears: the PDF is probably a scanned image. Use the Word version or paste the text. Google sign-in doesn't finish: make sure you complete the Google permission screen, and try a regular (non-private) browser window. Still stuck? Email me. See Contact support below.
